Ethanol propolis extract is the active substance in APIŻEL (it is obtained from beeswax). Compositions responsible for antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of propolis extract are above all fenolic acids: benzoic, cinnamic, caffeic and ferrulic; alcohols: benzyl cinnamyl and their esters. The properties are to a smaller degree the result of flavonoids presence in propolis: quercetine, acacetine, pinocembrine. Moreover, in propolis extract there are small amounts of volatile terpene compounds (ca.1%), mainly geranioli borneol, which give the characteristic smell of the preparation.
APIŻEL has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. Its antimicrobial effects concern mainly staphylococcus and pyogenic streptococcus.
Microbes causing numerous skin inflammations which are sensitive to propolis are mostly Gram-positive coccusses (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes) and candida (Candida albicans). Shortens time of healing in case of skin injuries, makes the regeneration of tissues faster, especially the processes of epithelialization and granulation.
In contact with skin it has slightly cooling effect, it adheres well to the skin and is not rub off easily. This increases comfort of use in case of oedemas and reddening of skin in inflammations caused e.g. by insects bites, microbial infections, burns.

Inflammations of skin, 1st degree burns, small injuries of skin. Inflammations and oedemas caused by insects bites.
Squeeze out a small amount of gel and spread on diseased skin surface. Apply when needed, up to several times a day.
Allergy to propolis, bees products or derivatives of benzoic acid.
SPECIAL WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE:
In case of persons allergic to other bees products (honey, pollen, royal jelly) rash, erythema, increase of oedema or other allergic symptoms can occur. In such situations administration of the medicine must be discontinued.
APPLICATION DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
There has been no well controlled research on preparations effects on women during pregnancy and lactation, so it is not recommended to use the preparation without medical consultation. Do not use in case of women prone to allergies.
